During the installation process of Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5, choose to install Microsoft Visual Basic Scripting component. But if you chose not to install Microsoft Visual Basic Scripting component during the installation process of Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5, the component's files are not installed on your computer. For more information, please read the section "Visual Basic Scripting" Component of Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5.
If your computer has Internet Explorer 6 installed, the computer needs to have Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed. For more information, please read the section Note on Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0.

"Visual Basic Scripting" Component of Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5

If you are using Microsoft Windows XP or later version of Windows, you can skip this section. Bonodi XML Editor requires that Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or later version be installed on your computer. Bonodi also requires Microsoft Visual Basic Scripting component that is included in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or later version. In the setup process of Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5, you have an option to exclude Microsoft Visual Basic Scripting component from installation. If you chose not to install Microsoft Visual Basic Scripting component, Bonodi would not function. Please make sure that Microsoft Visual Basic Scripting component is installed.

Internet Explorer 5.5 on Windows XP

Windows XP contains Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 as well as Visual Basic Scripting component. Do not install Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 on Windows XP. You don't have an option not to install Microsoft Visual Basic Scripting on Windows 2000/XP.

Internet Explorer 5.5 on Windows 2000

If you installed Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 on Windows 2000, Visual Basic Scripting component would be also installed. You don't have an option not to install Microsoft Visual Basic Scripting on Windows 2000/XP.

Internet Explorer 5.5 on Windows 98/Me/NT4

To install Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 on Microsoft Windows NT4, you would need to have Service Pack 3 or later Service Pack installed beforehand.

Microsoft Windows Me includes Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5, therefore, you do not need to install Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 on Microsoft Windows Me to use Bonodi.

If you chose not to install Microsoft Visual Basic Scripting component in the setup process of Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5, Microsoft Visual Basic Scripting component would not be installed, and Bonodi would not function.

By installing Microsoft Visual Basic Scripting, a file named "wshom.ocx" is copied into the Windows System Folder (e.g. C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM). The presence of the file in the Windows System Folder is required to start Bonodi.

If the version of the file "wshom.ocx" in Windows System Folder was older than 5.1.0.4615, you would need to install Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 again properly in order to update the file.

Here follows the steps to install Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 and Microsoft Visual Basic Scripting component. If you started the setup process of Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5, you would see the following:

  • Install Now - Typical set of components
  • Install Minimal, or customize your browser

If you chose "Install Now - Typical set of components" option, you would have Microsoft Visual Basic Scripting component installed on your computer.
If you chose "Install Minimal, or customize your browser" option and you chose not to install Microsoft Visual Basic Scripting component, Microsoft Visual Basic Scripting component of Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 would not be installed.

Upgrading your computer's OS from Windows 95 to Windows 98 would replace the updated version of the file "wshom.ocx" with older file. If that was the case, you would need to update the file "wshom.ocx" by installing Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 again.

If Microsoft Visual Basic Scripting component that came with Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 was not installed on your computer, you would need to install Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 again to update the component.

To install or update "Visual Basic Scripting" component on your computer, do the following steps:

  1. Start Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 Active Setup Wizard.
  2. Accept the agreement and click Next.
  3. Click "Install Minimal, or customize your browser", and then click Next.
  4. In the Component Options list, click on the Visual Basic Scripting check box to select it. The Visual Basic Scripting component might be displayed in bold font, but actually update is needed.
  5. Continue the setup process, and finish the installation.
